Citizens Academy 2026 Registration Is CLOSED!

Citizens will learn about the many functions and roles within law enforcement and the Union County Sheriff's Office.  The Academy is scheduled for every Thursday evening for ten (10) weeks.  If you wish to attend, fill out an application.

What is the Citizen’s Academy?

The Union County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy is a unique opportunity for community members to gain an inside look at the Sheriff’s Office and learn about the many divisions, responsibilities, and services that help keep Union County safe.

What will I learn during the academy?

Participants will receive hands-on learning experiences and interact directly with Sheriff’s Office personnel. Topics and activities include:

• Patrol Operations
• Criminal Investigations
• K-9 Unit
• School Resource Officers
• Special Response Team (SRT)
• Detention Operations
• Traffic Enforcement
• Community Programs
• Crime Prevention and Public Safety Initiatives

Participants will also gain hands-on experience with law enforcement tools, tour our state-of-the-art Crime Lab, and engage with our advanced virtual simulator.

Who can apply?

The Citizen’s Academy is open to anyone who is:

• 18 years of age or older
• A Union County resident
• Interested in learning more about law enforcement and public safety
• Willing to actively participate in academy activities

How much does the program cost?

The Citizen’s Academy is completely free of charge.

How do I apply?

Interested individuals must complete the online application form. Applications will be reviewed, and selected participants will be notified via email.

Is attendance required for every session?

Due to the structured nature of the program, participants may not miss more than two sessions to remain eligible for graduation.

What happens after the academy is completed?

The academy concludes with a Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, November 5, where family and friends are welcome to attend.

Graduates will receive:

• A Certificate of Completion
• A commemorative gift from the Union County Sheriff’s Office

Can family and friends attend graduation?

Yes. Family and friends are invited to attend the Graduation Ceremony and celebrate the accomplishments of academy participants.
