- Make sure all outdoor objects are secure.
- Avoid fallen tree limbs, powerlines, and debris.
- Never drive through standing water.
- If possible, bring your pets inside
- Keep in mind that not everyone has a family or is able to purchase all that is needed in preparation for a weather event. Check on your elderly relatives, church members, neighbors, and friends to make sure they have what they need. When you are at the grocery store or gas station, respect one another and use common courtesy.
- While we encourage everyone to stay off roadways if you do decide to venture out, drive slow and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination. Always wear your seatbelt
- Keep in mind that your vehicle will not stop in the same manner or distance that it does on a clear, dry roadway.
- While we don't encourage anyone to hoard extra tanks or cans of fuel for your vehicles, it is important that you take the opportunity to ensure your vehicles have a full tank if possible.
- Communication is key in a weather event. Make sure your phones are charged and maybe even purchase a portable battery booster to charge your phone in the event that you lose power.
- Take a look at your pantry and cabinets. Make sure that you have enough food to take care of yourself and your family for a couple of days. Try and purchase food that does not require refrigeration in case you were to lose power.
- If you do lose power and utilize candles for lighting, please use caution. Make sure you talk to your children abot fire safety and exit routes from your residence in case of an emergency. Flashlights are a safer source of lighting so make sure you have enough extra batteries purchased.
