Recently, the Union County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, working alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), received information that a subject, later identified as Daniel Farfan would be transporting a large quantity of deadly narcotics from Los Angeles, California, through Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

During the investigation, investigators determined that the narcotics were ultimately destined for Monroe, North Carolina. Narcotics Detectives and ATF agents located Farfan in Monroe and were able to seize the 11.5 pounds of fentanyl.

He was arrested and transported to the Union County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of Trafficking Opium or Heroin and Felony Maintaining a Dwelling for the Use, Storage, or Sale of a Controlled Substance. His bond was set at $1,000,000 secure.

Sheriff Eddie Cathey stated, “The seizure of this large quantity of fentanyl is a significant accomplishment in our ongoing efforts to protect the citizens of Union County. I want to thank our Narcotics Unit, the ATF, and all of the investigators involved for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to holding those responsible accountable.
