Over the past several months, Detectives with the Union County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation have investigated an organized retail theft ring operating within the county. The investigation began after notification from an out-of-state law enforcement agency.

The suspects, Deanna Morzinski and Luis Ospina, established a nonprofit organization, Keystep LLC, while simultaneously operating KRZ Logistics LLC to facilitate the distribution of stolen merchandise. During the investigation it was determined they recruited individuals from across the country to commit thefts from retail stores and ship the stolen goods to them, which were then resold for significant profit.

On April 28, 2026, detectives executed multiple search warrants at properties associated with the suspects and their businesses. Approximately $250,000 in stolen merchandise was recovered.

Deanna Morzinski was arrested and charged with Organized Retail Theft. She was seen by a Judicial Official and issued a $250,000 secured bond and is currently housed in the Detention Center.

Luis Ospina was arrested and charged with Organized Retail Theft, Probation Violation, and Sex Offender- Failure to Register. He was seen by a Judicial Official and issued a $550,000 secured bond and is also being housed at the Detention Center.

Representatives from Walgreens, CVS, Publix, National Insurance Crime Bureau, Walmart, Target, and Harris Teeter were on site and provided significant assistance in identifying and recovering the property.
