Last week over a two-day period, something truly amazing took place here in Union County. The Special Olympics brought together athletes from local schools for the unforgettable spring games held on the Wingate University track and football field.

From the moment the events began, the energy was contagious. Students gave it their all running, competing, cheering each other on, and celebrating every victory, big or small.

What made it even more meaningful was the incredible support from across the county. Volunteers dedicated their time to ensure everything ran smoothly, while local first responders and other volunteers stepped in to help present medals, and spend time connecting with the athletes.

Moments like these remind us what community is all about. You can tell these students love competing and it was evident when they crossed the finish line and had a huge smile on their face.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to play a small part in something so big that touched so many. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make these two days so special.
