Deputies responded to a residence in Wingate at approximately 7:56 pm on 04/15/2026 in reference to an active disturbance. This disturbance was physical with the husband actively assaulting his wife.
Deputies were on scene within 3 minutes of being dispatched, as they approached the male, he presented a knife turning it on himself causing injury to his neck area.
Deputies were able to take the male into custody and immediately began rendering lifesaving aid to both individuals.
The female victim sustained multiple puncture wounds across her body and was airlifted to a local hospital due to the severity of her injuries. She is currently in stable condition.
The male subject was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injury
Multiple detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the residence to process the scene and collect evidence and information regarding the incident. It was later determined that the offender was Augusto Rendon, who was charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder. He is currently receiving medical care and will be transported to the Union County Detention Center once medically cleared.

Their quick response and dedication to their profession helped save not only the victim’s life but also the offender’s, ensuring he can be held accountable for his actions.
