Sheriff Cathey would like to extend his appreciation to a local resident who recently submitted a compliment through our website recognizing Deputy Barclay, one of our contract deputies assigned to the Town of Weddington.
The message highlighted a recent call for service in the Weddington area that was dispatched as a 911 hang-up. Upon arrival, Deputy Barclay determined there was no emergency and learned that a visitor to the residence had accidentally dialed 911.
During conversation, Deputy Barclay learned that the resident had recently been discharged from the hospital following a fall. Noticing ice on the steps, Deputy Barclay took the initiative to ask for a shovel and cleared the ice to help prevent another potential injury.
Deputy Barclay’s actions exemplify the Union County Sheriff’s Office vision and commitment to providing quality service to the residents of our county.
Deputy Barclay came to my father's house in response to an accidental call to emergency services. I let him know that no help was needed, but that my dad (83 years old) had fallen on the ice and dislocated his shoulder. He proceeded to ask for a shovel and remove the ice from the front steps. I cannot express my gratitude and amazement at this public servant noticing a problem, stepping in to solve it and selflessly helping our family. He is an asset to the Sheriff's office and to the community, and we are all lucky to have him. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you,
