This afternoon, Sheriff Eddie Cathey, along with the men and women of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, celebrated the distinguished career and well-deserved retirement of Chief Deputy Greg Thomas.
Chief Thomas began his service with the Sheriff’s Office on November 28, 1994, as a Detention Officer. Over the next 30 years, he served with unwavering dedication across multiple divisions, rising through the
ranks to lead the Patrol Division and ultimately serve as Chief Deputy, overseeing the agency’s administrative operations.
Chief Thomas has been a constant source of leadership, professionalism, and integrity. His deep knowledge of law enforcement, his genuine care for our deputies, and his calm presence during both routine operations and critical incidents made him a pillar of our agency.
This afternoon’s retirement ceremony was attended by family, friends, and co-workers, all there to show their appreciation and support. Chief Thomas was presented with numerous tokens of recognition for his decades of faithful service.
Chief, your leadership, character, and impact on this agency will never be forgotten. You leave behind a legacy of honor and service that will inspire generations to come.
